As you may have noticed, there is a huge amount of information on the Internet. Some of it is useful, some of it not so much. Some of it will interest you and most of it won’t. So, how do you go about finding things that you want to see?

I have found a handy little tool for helping with this very problem. I discovered it a number of years ago, and have used it on a regular basis ever since. It is something that never gets old, never gets boring and always gives you exactly what you want, no more, no less. This Internet saviour is called Stumble Upon.

So what exactly is it that Stumble Upon does? Stumble Upon adds a toolbar to your browser with a number of options including, but not limited to, a Stumble button, a Like Button and a Dislike button. When you first sign up for the service, you will be given a check list to fill in, and Stumble Upon will then find websites for you according to your choices on that checklist. When you are bored, you can then just click the Stumble button and it will take you to a random website that matches your interests. As simple as that! If you like the site, you can click the “Like” button and it will be added to a list on your profile to help you find it again, and it will add to the likes that the page has. The more likes a page has, the more likely that other people will stumble across it! And you can do the same thing with the dislike button to ensure that other people will see less of a specific page.

If you come across a site that you like, even when it isn’t through Stumble Upon, you can like it there too! You will be asked to fill in a quick form to help decide which category the site will fall into, but once you have liked it, other people will be able to like it too. You can do this to any site including your own blog so that more people will visit it and you will get more hits.

How do you go about getting Stumble Upon? It really couldn’t be easier. Go to the Stumble Upon website (here) and click the “Join for Free” button. You will then need to fill in your details, fill in a checklist with your interests and the things that you want to Stumble Upon, and once that is done you will need to download the toolbar for your browser. Once it is downloaded, you can start Stumbling through the web!
