A week has passed since  I arrived on one of the most beautiful islands in the world! Fregate island, Seychelles! We were fortunate enough to be accepted as volunteers for monitoring Hawksbill turtles on the island for two months and so far we have been overwhelmed with the beauty of the nature, the kindness of the people living here and most importantly the incredibly amazing hawksbill turtles!

I hope to update my blog as often as possible (on a weekly basis) about our time in paradise! So far it has been a whirlwind of a week so for today I will just post a couple of pics until I get time to actually fill you in on all the island and turtle info! You should know that on our first patrol of turtles we saved 60+ little turtle hatchlings that had been trapped in between rocks and were surrounded by flies and hermit crabs! Watching the saved hatchlings make their way down to the sea was one of the most incredible acts of nature I have ever witnessed! Something so close to death but still fighting for survival! Truly amazing!

We also managed to see and record data on three adult females which came up the beach to lay their eggs! What incredible creatures! Since then we have saved over 100 hatchlings and watched 20 females make their way onto land to dig their body pits, and egg chambers- I will tell u all about that in time! Check out our video clip of a female returning to the sea after laying her eggs:
